more about the challenge ....

The challenge will take place between 15-25th October 2009. The trek itself is 5 days and we will spend 3-4 days just travelling to India and then to the Himalayas.

We will be flying over night to Delhi and then take an overnight train and coach to Dharamsala, home town of the Dalai Lama.

On the 4th day of the trip we will start the challenge: trekking 14-15km, 7-8 hours a day in the Himalayas. We will get as high as 3,500m so I don't expect a light stroll.

But the scenery should make up for all suffering.
We will pass through rhododendron and pine forests, valleys, glaciers and montain villages.

One of the scariest parts of the challenge for me is sleeping in camps for 4 nights, which really is not my cup of tea. Thankfully, we will have some help with carrying the bigger pieces of our luggage - I think from some local donkeys :)

On day 8 we will make our way back to Dharamsala and have a celebratory dinner and a good rest.
The following day there will be some time for sight seeing locally before travelling back to Delhi. On the last day of the trip we will have a chance to see the Taj Mahal - which I regard as my biggest reward after the challenge - before flying back to London.
